Created in 2006, "Horizons Quintet" is the very new Gueorgui Kornazov’s band.
Playing Kornazov’s music (new compositions yet unreleased), four talented musicians :
Emile Parisien, sax soprano,
Manu Codjia, guitar,
Marc Buronfosse, double bass,
and Karl Jannuska, drums.
Emile Parisien
Born in 1982 in Cahors, France.
He discovered jazz during a masterclass in Marciac, among experienced
musicians such as Pierre Boussaguet, Guy Laffitte et Tonton Salut.
He then studied classical and contemporary music at Toulouse
Conservatory.
He settled down in Paris in 2000 where he played with Rémi
Vignolo, Hervé Sellin, Olivier Temime, Bertrand Renaudin, Paco
Sery, Yaron Herman, Eric Serra. He then worked with Chris Mc Bride,
Johny Griffin et Wynton Marsalis who made him play beside them at
Marciac’s Festival.
Karl Jannuska
Born in 1975 in Altona, Canada.
Karl achieved a master of music in Jazz Performance with High
Distinction at McGill University of Montreal. In 1999, with the help of
scholarships from Art Council of Canada and Quebec he went to New York
to study for 9 months with the drumer Tom Rainer. In this town he also
played with Mark Turner, Kurt Rosenwinkel and Kevin Hays. He left New
York in 2001 to settle down in France and played then with David Linx,
Stephane Belmondo, Jacky Terrason, Laurent de Wilde, François
Moutin, Rick Margitza, Pierre Boussaguet, Paolo Fresu, Pierre de
Bethmann and Sara Lazarus. As a teacher, he has given private lessons
for the last ten years. He regularly teaches in Marciac and in 2005 was
part of the jury of Marseille’s Conservatory. In his discography,
we find more than twenty recordings as a sideman, with Lee Konitz,
Sheila Jordan, Seamus Blake, Michel Donato, François
Théberge, Anne Ducros or Niels Lan Doky. His first album as a
leader and composer, Liberating Vines, released in 2004 for Effendi
label, obtained Opus prize as Album of the year in Jazz / Musique du
Monde category. In 2004, one of Karl composition’s received the
CBC Etoiles Galaxie Prize in the International Jazz Festival in
Montreal .
Manu Codjia
Born in 1975 in Chaumont, France.
Since 1985, Manu Codjia began to study first classical then jazz guitar
with François Arnold in Chaumont school of music.
In 1993 he studied at the CIM and joined in 1994 the CNSM (National
Conservatory in Paris) in the jazz and improvised musics (with
François Jeanneau, Hervé Sellin, Jean-François
Jenny-Clarke , François Théberge , Daniel Humair) until
1998, when he was voted first prize unanimously.
In 1999 he obtained numerous prizes in the National Jazz Competition of
La Défense (1st prize as a soloist, 1st group prize with
Matthieu Donnarier Trio, 2nd group prize with the Spice Bones and 3rd
group prize with Gueorgui Kornazov’s Quintet).
Manu Codjia obtained again two prizes in the National Jazz Competition
of La Défense in 2001 : 1st group prize with Dr. Knock and Fnac
prize with Alerta G. He also played with : Pat Metheny, Adam Nusbaum,
Miroslav Vitous, Erik Truffaz …
At the moment playing with :, Christophe Monniot’s Moniomania, Dr
Knock, Daniel Humair’s Baby Boom, Matthieu Donnarier’s
trio, Gueorgui Kornazov quintet, Alerta G., Henri Texier «

Marc Buronfosse
Born in 1963 in Soissons, France.
He first studied classical guitar, then, in 1982, he started to learn
double bass during his studies of musicology and sound engineer.
He studied classical double bass with Thierry Barbé in a
Municipal Conservatory in Paris and then jazz with Cesarius Alvim,
Henri Texier, Charlie Haden, Reggie Workman. He also worked in
Symphonic orchestras and Chamber music ensembles.
In 1991, a scholarship from Ministry of Culture allowed him to study
one year at the New School of Music in New York. He worked there
regularly with Gary Peacock, Marc Johnson and Mark Dresser. During his
stay, he played with Jimmy Cobb, Steve Kühn, John Abercrombie, Lew
Soloff, Tim Berne, Dave Liebman, Billy Harper...
He played with groups such as Fawzy Al Aiedy Paris Bagdad, Josetxo
Goia-Aribe Ensemble, René Aubry Group, Bertrand Renaudin
«Flowers» Quartet, Stephane Guillaume Quartet, Ocean
Quintet, Illinx Trio…
In 1992 he won the first prize in La Défense Competition of Jazz
with the Bojan Z Quartet.
Lately he worked with Sylvain Beuf Quintet, Benjamin Moussay’s
Trio, Sébastien Texier’s Trio...

This trio, a typical, works like a collective of three composers.
This poetry is the result of more than ten years of jointly musical life.
The originality of this formation doesn't come only from the particularities of the instrumentation,
but also from the interaction of those three composers...

Georgi Kornazov
Born on the 30th of september 1971 in Sevlievo (Bulgaria).
Georgi was still a teenager when he discovered jazz during his
classical studies at the Sofia National Conservatory of Music and he
soon began to play with the most famous bulgarian jazz musicians :
Ivo Papazov.
In 1995, he joined the jazz departement of the National Conservatory of
Music and Dance in Paris directed by François Jeanneau.
The following year, he obtained / he won the prize of best soloist at
the « Tremplin de Jazz » in the city of Avignon
chaired by Daniel Humair. In 1998, he won the first prize in the jazz
departement of C.N.S.M. de Paris. He composed his own band with whom he
received the 3th prize at the national jazz competition of
« La Défense ».
Georgi played in Didier Levallet’s O.N.J. (National Jazz
Orchestra) conducted by John LEWIS, and was a regular member with Paolo
Damiani and with the Big Band « Lumieres » of
Laurent Cugny. He was part of Paris Jazz Big Band.
During all of those years, Georgi has crossed paths with a huge list of
musicians such as : Bojan Zulfikarparsic, Kenny Wheeler,
François Jeanneau, Carla Bley, Quincy Jones, Maria Schneider,
Marc Ducret, Louis Sclavis, Christophe Monniot, Michel Portal, Claude
Nougaro…
Since 2002, he plays in Henri Texier’s new band : the Strada
Sextet. In 2005 he joined in turns the Vienna Art Orchestra (conducted
by Mathias Rüegg) and Jean-Marie Machado’s
« Andaloucia » Sextet.
Geoffroy Tamisier
Born in Nantes (France) in November 1973.
He studied at the National Conservatory of Nantes, where he got
diplomas of trumpet, musical theory, chamber music and composition.
In 1993 he joined the jazz department of the CNSM (National and
Superior Conservatory of Music and Dance of Paris), directed by
François Jeanneau.
In 1997 he was voted first prize unanimously.
He obtained a 1st prize of composition at the "Concours National de
Jazz de la Défense".
In 1998 he got the 2nd “group prize” with "OLH Acoustic" at
the same festival and also the special prize of jury at the "Tremplin
Jazz d'Avignon".
Since then he's playing in many clubs and festivals in France and
abroad (Radio-France Festival, Montreux Jazz festival, Le Mans Europa
Jazz, Jazz in Montréal...)
From 2002 till 2005 he is part of the ONJ of Claude
Barthélémy.
